Larry Light joins SYSTRA as Director of Positive Train Control (PTC) Systems
Larry Light, formerly Senior Director New Technologies for Amtrak, has taken the position of Director of Positive Train Control (PTC) Systems for SYSTRA Consulting, Inc. adding to SYSTRA’s exceptional staff of Train Control engineers and designers. Larry has had a distinguished career in signaling and train control starting out of college on the Pennsylvania Railroad, working through the ranks of the C&S Department before becoming Regional Engineer, C&S and ET for the Metropolitan Region of Penn Central and later Conrail. In 1983 he went to Amtrak to head C&S Maintenance & Design. Since the mid 1990’s he has been instrumental in the development and implementation of Amtrak’s train control systems for its high speed rail services including ACSES for Amtrak’s 150 mph Acela service on the Northeast Corridor and ITCS for Amtrak’s Michigan Line implementing 110 mph service.
With an extensive background in electrified and non-electrified railway systems and operations, Larry strengthens a SYSTRA team already providing expert PTC engineering services to the major commuter operators Metrolink, LIRR, and Metro-North. He will bring his expertise to lead SYSTRA’s effort in support of the rail industry as the nation moves forward with the required implementation of Positive Train Control.
